Rawk the Puck: Conference Finals

02May07

When Chris Young first started Rawk The Puck many moons ago (last year’s playoffs), he divided it into a Classic Rock conference and an Indie Rock conference. Those definitions didn’t really hold up, but it was at least something to go on. For the conference finals, I’ve reverted back to those original definitions, mainly because finding a song for the Atlanta Thrashers is really, really hard.

Here are your conference finalists. For the West (Indie Rock), there’s still a chance that real life (the NHL) may imitate art, but the Canucks better hope for a miracle first. Since we’re down to the Final Four, I’ve embedded the YouTube clips here. Voting widgets are after the match-ups’ video clips.

Indie Rock Conference Championship
#3 Vancouver Canucks vs. #5 San Jose Sharks
Representing Vancouver: New Pornographers, Use It (Vancouver’s favorite hometown band)

Representing San Jose: PJ Harvey, Down By The Water (water, sharks, get it?)

And in the east, it’s classic rock mania! I can’t stand Free Bird even though I play guitar which I believe would cause me to get lynched in some states.

#2 New Jersey Devils vs. #3 Atlanta Thrashers
Representing New Jersey: Van Halen, Running With The Devil

Representing Atlanta: Lynyrd Skynyrd, Free Bird (bird, since a Thrasher is Georgia’s state bird)

Voting is open until Monday morn. Rawk on!
